The Biomedicine and Translation Science Workshop focuses on the crucial process of translating tacit knowledge—deep, intuitive knowledge gained through experience—into explicit, tangible innovations that can be commercialized to improve global health. By combining the principles of blockchain, DeFi, and AI, participants will explore how to transform scientific discoveries in biomedicine into market-ready products and services that benefit society. This workshop will guide participants through the key stages of the translation process, from ideation to distribution, while also addressing the technical, ethical, and logistical challenges in commercializing biomedical innovations. This workshop is important because the ability to translate biomedical research into practical solutions is essential for advancing global health. The use of blockchain, DeFi, and AI in this process offers new avenues for innovation, particularly in low-resource settings where access to cutting-edge health technologies is often limited. Participants will learn how to leverage these technologies to enhance the manufacturing, distribution, and commercialization of biomedical products that can improve health outcomes on a global scale.
The 4-day process will be structured around key stages of translation science:
Day 1-3: The Translation and Commercialization Journey Participants will engage in hands-on activities and collaborative sessions that focus on:
Exploration and Exteriorization: Understanding how to identify tacit knowledge in the biomedical field and translate it into explicit forms that can be shared and analyzed. This includes leveraging blockchain for secure data sharing and AI for knowledge extraction.
Formalization and Ideation: Structuring this knowledge into formal concepts and ideas that will lead to innovative products and services. DeFi will be explored as a tool for democratizing funding for biomedical projects.
Prototyping and Manufacturing: Turning ideas into tangible prototypes and exploring how AI can optimize the prototyping process, while blockchain ensures traceability and trust in the supply chain.
Distribution: Exploring decentralized approaches to manufacturing and distribution, using blockchain and DeFi to improve global access to biomedical products, particularly in underserved regions.
Each stage will be complemented by keynote speeches and presentations from leading experts in biomedicine, blockchain, DeFi, and AI, followed by interactive dialogues designed to foster cross-disciplinary innovation.
Day 4: Outcomes and Real-World Applications On the final day, participants will:
Present their prototypes, solutions, or business models developed throughout the workshop.
Explore pathways to commercialization, including strategies for securing funding and partnerships.
Form organizations or collaborations to take these biomedical innovations to market, with a focus on ensuring that they reach global populations, particularly those in low-resource settings.
To enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange, we encourage participants to view our YouTube video explaining the networking process and visit our Partners page for information on key contributors and supporters of this workshop. Keynote speeches, expert-led discussions, and the structured process of translation science will empower participants to leave the workshop with actionable insights and strategies for transforming biomedical discoveries into global health solutions using blockchain, DeFi, and AI.
