Cybersecurity Workshop

The Cybersecurity Workshop, led by Professor Abade from the Computer Science Department at the University of Nairobi, will delve into the critical role of cybersecurity in the digital age, with a focus on blockchain, DeFi, and AI technologies. The workshop will bring together facilitators from the university and startups under C4DLab, a research and development (R&D) and startup incubation lab based at the Department of Computing and Informatics. Participants will explore cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions to address the increasing threats in the digital world while fostering human development through secure digital ecosystems.

What Is It About?

The Cybersecurity Workshop will focus on the importance of protecting digital assets and ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information in the age of blockchain, DeFi, and AI. It will explore strategies to enhance the security of decentralized financial systems and AI-powered platforms that are driving human development. Topics covered will include:

• Blockchain Security: How to secure decentralized systems from hacks, fraud, and vulnerabilities.

• AI in Cybersecurity: The role of artificial intelligence in predicting, identifying, and mitigating cyber threats.

• DeFi Security: Ensuring the safety of decentralized financial systems, which are often targets for cyberattacks.

This hands-on workshop will feature practical examples of cybersecurity solutions that startups and businesses can adopt, offering participants a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts.

This workshop will follow a 4-day creative process, similar to other workshops at the summit, with a focus on developing practical cybersecurity solutions:

• Day 1: Envisioning the Future of Cybersecurity for Human Development
  

  • The workshop will start with a keynote address by Professor  Abade on the future of cybersecurity in relation to blockchain, DeFi, and AI.

  • Facilitators will guide participants through discussions on the most pressing cybersecurity challenges for decentralized systems, setting the stage for an interactive, problem-solving approach.

  • C4DLab startups will showcase their innovative cybersecurity products, offering insight into how research and development can drive practical solutions.

• Day 2: Identifying Cybersecurity Challenges and Risk Assessment
  

  • The second day will focus on identifying the key cybersecurity challenges facing digital systems today.

  • Participants will use real-world case studies to understand vulnerabilities in blockchain, DeFi, and AI systems.

  • Facilitators will lead a risk assessment exercise, allowing participants to measure current threats and develop strategies to mitigate them.

• Day 3: Roadmap to Secure Digital Systems
  

  • On the third day, participants will collaborate to develop a roadmap for secure digital ecosystems, focusing on blockchain and DeFi security, as well as the use of AI for proactive threat detection.

  • C4DLab startups will present their cybersecurity solutions, demonstrating how startups are helping to drive innovation in this field.

  • Discussions will explore how to integrate AI-driven cybersecurity protocols to create secure systems that can evolve as technology advances.

• Day 4: Presenting Cybersecurity Solutions and Forming Collaborations
  

  • The final day will feature presentations from participants and exhibitors showcasing cybersecurity solutions that can be adopted by businesses, governments, and organizations.

  • Collaborative teams will present the products, services, or organizations they have developed, ensuring that these ideas can be implemented to enhance digital security and protect human development.

  • C4DLab will facilitate connections between startups and participants to promote long-term collaboration in cybersecurity innovation.
