This workshop is designed to be a collaborative, hands-on experience where technical experts, innovators, and thought leaders work together to design sustainable, future-focused solutions.
Biomedicine and Translation Science Workshop
The Biomedicine and Translation Science Workshop focuses on the crucial process of translating tacit knowledge—deep, intuitive knowledge gained through experience—into explicit, tangible innovations that can be commercialized to improve global health. By combining the principles of blockchain, DeFi, and AI, participants will explore how to transform scientific discoveries in biomedicine into market-ready products and services that benefit society. This workshop will guide participants through the key stages of the translation process, from ideation to distribution, while also addressing the technical, ethical, and logistical challenges in commercializing biomedical innovations.
Environmental Health Workshop
The Environmental Health Workshop will focus on how blockchain, DeFi, and AI technologies can help us shape a future where environmental health is prioritized, preserved, and enhanced. Participants will explore how these emerging technologies can be used to address critical environmental challenges, from pollution control to sustainable resource management, creating healthier communities and ecosystems globally.
Health Access Workshop
The Health Access Workshop is centered on the transformative potential of blockchain technology to improve global health access. The focus will be on how blockchain can be used to ensure four critical types of accessibility: universal health coverage through health risk pools, realized access to healthcare services, physical access to healthcare facilities, and the expansion of telemedicine through innovative devices. Participants will explore how these blockchain-based solutions can be implemented to improve health outcomes, particularly in underserved and remote areas.
Food and Agriculture Workshop
The Food and Agriculture Workshop will focus on how blockchain, DeFi, and AI can revolutionize the agricultural sector by improving access to quality, climate-adaptive seeds, financial resources, crop insurance via smart contracts, and advanced mechanization. This workshop will explore the ways in which these technologies can enhance the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of food systems, ultimately contributing to global food security and nutrition.
Surgery Workshop
The Surgery Workshop will explore how blockchain technology can transform access to surgical care by addressing challenges related to insurance, medical devices, and equipment through innovative solutions like health risk pooling. The workshop will focus on how blockchain can make surgeries more accessible and affordable by creating transparent, decentralized systems for managing insurance claims and ensuring the availability of essential surgical tools.
Water and Energy Workshop
The Water and Energy Workshop will explore how blockchain, DeFi, and AI technologies can enhance access to clean water and renewable energy solutions. This workshop will focus on innovative approaches to rainwater harvesting, drilling boreholes, and the development of sustainable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. By leveraging these emerging technologies, we can ensure that communities worldwide have reliable access to essential resources, building a future that prioritizes environmental sustainability and equitable energy distribution.
Women’s Workshop
The Women’s Workshop is designed to explore the intersection of women’s economic health and emerging technologies such as blockchain, DeFi, and AI. This workshop is centered on how women, as key custodians of health in their communities, can harness these technologies to strengthen their economic standing, improve access to resources, and drive forward sustainable development in health and human well-being. It will offer a platform for women to learn, collaborate, and create solutions that integrate these powerful tools into their lives and businesses.
Mental Health Workshop
The Mental Health Workshop will explore how blockchain technology can improve access to essential mental health services, focusing on counseling and other support systems. Like physical health, mental health is a crucial component of overall well-being, and access to timely, affordable, and effective mental health care can significantly improve quality of life. In this workshop, participants will examine how blockchain can address barriers to mental health services, ensuring equitable access to care, especially in underserved communities.
STEM Knowledge Translation Workshop
The STEM Knowledge Translation Workshop is designed to explore how emerging technologies such as blockchain, DeFi, and AI can be leveraged to translate scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical (STEM) knowledge into practical applications that benefit society. This workshop will provide participants with the tools and insights needed to transform theoretical STEM knowledge into actionable solutions, products, and services. The focus will be on creating a collaborative environment where participants can brainstorm, innovate, and apply blockchain, DeFi, and AI to drive real-world change through STEM disciplines.
Nuclear Energy Workshop
The Nuclear Energy Workshop, led by the Nuclear Society of Kenya, will bring together nuclear scientists from across Africa to explore how blockchain, DeFi, and AI can enhance the role of nuclear energy in advancing human development. This includes areas such as nuclear medicine for disease diagnosis and treatment, radio-pharmacy, and the broader use of nuclear energy to support sustainable economic and social growth. Over a 4-day process, participants will work to envision how nuclear energy can shape the future of human development, address current challenges, and create actionable roadmaps for innovation and implementation.
Cybersecurity Workshop
The Cybersecurity Workshop, led by Professor Abade from the Computer Science Department at the University of Nairobi, will delve into the critical role of cybersecurity in the digital age, with a focus on blockchain, DeFi, and AI technologies. The workshop will bring together facilitators from the university and startups under C4DLab, a research and development (R&D) and startup incubation lab based at the Department of Computing and Informatics. Participants will explore cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions to address the increasing threats in the digital world while fostering human development through secure digital ecosystems.
Info Tech Workshop
The workshop will explore how blockchain, DeFi, and AI can be leveraged to enhance the accessibility, security, and efficiency of information in healthcare systems. By doing so, it aims to redefine global health by ensuring that access to vital health information is no longer a privilege but a right. The purpose of the Info Tech Workshop is to actuate understanding that information access is equal to health access. Without the ability to obtain accurate, timely information, the dream of universal health access remains out of reach. This workshop aims to address that gap by bringing together professionals from fields like information science, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals to discuss innovative solutions that can bridge the divide between information flow and healthcare delivery.
